"even with injuries"

This goes unnoticed by neutrals. People are keen to point out that van Dijk being out for Liverpool pretty much killed their season.

We've had more key players out of the team yet have still manage to grind out results. Which makes this season even more impressive.

I would argue that we played better in the first half vrs Leicester with Noble in the team, and we put three past Wolves in the first half with him in the side.

Good teams have lots of options
Obviously with his recent form and attention most teams will be paying more attention to Lingard and concentrating most on him.
Which gives more space and time to Antonio, Fornals, Benrahma etc
We just need to be more ruthless and destroy teams when we are in the ascendancy such as last night and the games where we were 3-0 up

Re: ⚽ Burnley v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-2
It's our run in which makes me confident and why I fancied us last night. We've just been exceptionally good vs the lower teams, even with injuries. Losong to the rent boys was a blow, but their run in looks tough to say the least. It's all to play for.

Moyes stated that we went for the 3 points in this game which is why he played an attacking team.

Think that proves that up until now, in most games he’s been a ‘let’s not lose’ manager.

Let’s hope last night taught him something. Let’s hope it also taught some of our fans something. Over the years I’ve often heard view that believe being entertaining and successful are mutually exclusive.

Under Sam Allardyce, when some complained about his negative tactics, others would counter with things like ‘would you prefer being in the championship’ or other such rubbish.

Performances like tonight prove that mentality wrong, I’d like all fans to understand that, but more than anything I’d like Moyes to really believe it

no, never said he was shit, or moyes lucky. we just clearly play better without him anchored in front of the back 3/4/5, and normally it's a five to compensate for his lack of mobility

Re: ⚽ Burnley v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-2
What a great game played. The only criticism is that we weren’t out of sight by half time, and in a different county by full time. We should have won 4 or 5 -1, possibly more, instead of heart attacks and twitching rings.

That said, they were all excellent.

Diop recovered very well from his shaky start, making some really important clearing headers and tackles. Dawson was back to the high levels he had been showing. Beast of a defender. Cresswell and Coufal were magnificent in defence and attack.

Soucek sacrificed his more attacking game to really help out policing the middle and helping the defenders, which isn’t an eye catching job, but it’s important and he did it well. Lanzini was probably my MOTM, because he has hardly had any chance to play, and doesn’t usually play in that position, and it was against a physical hard working side, but he was immense; calm head, spraying the ball all over, shrugging off and skipping past the opposition. Really pleased to see him play like that. If he keeps that up, we’d be mad to sell him.

Benrahma had his best game for us. Shame he couldn’t get his first goal. Maybe that will be the goal that gets us into the CL in the last game of the season. Him, along with Fornals, Lingard and Antonio, and Lanzini, Cresswell and Coufal all linked up so well, a normally very organized Burnley didn’t know what was going on.

It was good to see Lingard work so hard but not be the star of the show. He and we need matches like that. And it was really good to see Antonio back so fired up and fit from the first to last whistle in an injury comeback match.

Well done Moyes and Co, and thank you for giving us a team to truly be proud of again.

It’s hard not to get excited, but one game at a time.

Everton.

Destroy Everton.

COYI! 👍⚒

That football last night was fantastic.

To see soany players who all pose a threat was terrific.

Moyes needs to just go for it now.

Keep that team and watch the goals roll in. Four games to go. Shot or bust I say

So after the best performance in ages, to sum up WHO this morning:

Noble (who didn't play) is shit
Moyes got lucky that Noble didn't play

Long live WHO!

I'll chuck my 2p in too:

Coufal drives me up the wall with his first-time crossing without controlling the ball, looking where he's crossing and then aiming there.
Fornals made a stupid challenge that could have resulted in us playing with 10 men for the last 10 minutes.

Might not have been quite the same without Antonio and Cresswell though

Henry nailed it, said we should have set up like that against Newcastle as most on here did.

We would have lost last night too set up the same way

Re: ⚽ Burnley v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-2
I think confidence in passing and holding onto the ball was the foundation but moving forward really fast when the option allowed was what caused all the chances. Better final balls and finishing and the score would have been a lot different.

Re: ⚽ Burnley v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-2
soucek is a box to box player, not a defensive midfielder. even rice has changed his game since playing next to him, it's why noble in the team no longer works, as he stops the team attacking as a unit as he's permanently sat in front of the CBs

Lee Trundle 10:55 Tue May 4
Re: ⚽ Burnley v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-2
A lot of what's good about the way we play currently, is fast counter attacking football where we move players and the ball quickly up the other end of the pitch.

Not stuff that Noble is famed for, really.

Re: ⚽ Burnley v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-2
I hope it makes Moyes think about whether two defensive midfielders are compulsory for some games.

Thierry Henry actually made a good point about playing against a team who let allow you to have more possession, which is something Noble struggles with — finding something effective when you're faced with a ten man defence.

Sven Roeder 10:44 Tue May 4
Re: ⚽ Burnley v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-2
To be fair Moyes had few other options
Remarkable that we are still performing with a bench that contained 2 (TWO) keepers, 3 spare defenders and 3 players (Coventry Alves & Odubeko) who have never played a minute of Premier League football.

Re: ⚽ Burnley v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-2
I hope Moyes sticks with the the attacking intent that was likely forced upon him.

I fear that Noble's contact extension will be an almighty waste of money.

Great result and excellent performance. If Rice plays Soucek gets at least a goal in that game.

Also when Rice returns so will Souceks goal threat.

Re: ⚽ Burnley v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-2
I agree the Noble injury may have forced Moyes hand but he still had chance to play 5 at the back and didn’t.

Hopefully he has realised we can’t win and play 5 at back without Masuaku.

Some of our football was amazing last night - best I have seen for many years.

At times we kept the ball like Man City. We looked like team losing and trying to score to win.

Re: ⚽ Burnley v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-2
I’ve been defending Moyes since the his first short-term contract. I thought that what he did at Everton was sensational and that he was very unlucky not to have been given time at Man U. SAF, one of the smartest men in football, thought Moyes was his natural successor.

I hope that he’ll be able to repeat what he did at Everton here, and get us into Europe season after season.

Let's hope he finally smells the coffee. If he wants Noble as an expensive cheerleader that's his shout. But when even Lanz excels in a role where the club captain often gone missing, then his playing days surely have to be over.
